Hi everyone! With great pleasure, I would like to share my new lace top. Crochet Sunflower Top is the perfect crochet summer top, either for a festival, going to the beach, or just looking cute! The pattern is very adjustable, so you can crochet it in any size you need.

MATERIALS:

Yarn: Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 /Super Fine / 50 g (1.75 oz) / 170 m (186 yds) / 100% cotton – 152 grams, or for XXL-XXXL use Rainbow Cotton 8/8.

#056 yellow – 2 skeins,

#060 bordeaux – 1/2 of a skein,

#099 malachite green – 1/2 of a skein.

Crochet Hook: 3 mm

Size: (S M) L XL 2XL 3XL, the square of  8/4 cotton yarn – 13×13 cm or 5×5 in, the square of 8/8 cotton yarn – 24×24 cm or 9 1/2×9 1/2 in.

length – 40 cm/16 in, width – 40 cm/16 in, you can easily adjust the pattern to any size, please read more about it below.

You will need:

S-M – 16 sunflowers. 8 green + 8 brown middles;  12 sunflowers – body part + 4 shoulders straps

L-XL – 22 sunflowers. 11 green + 11 brown middles; 16 sunflowers – body part + 6 shoulders straps

2XL- 16 sunflowers. 8 green + 8 brown middles but use any 8/8 cotton yarn – 12 sunflowers – body part + 4 shoulders straps

3XL 22 sunflowers. 11 green + 11 brown middles but use any 8/8 cotton yarn,  16 sunflowers – body part + 6 shoulders straps

Stitches used: ch – chain, sl st – slip stitch, sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet.

The pattern is written using American English crochet terms.

SUNFLOWER PATTERN:

Row 1 (brown or green): Ch 16, dc in the 9th ch from the hook, ch 2, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch, ch 4, sl st in the 1st ch. 3 chain spaces.

Row 2 (brown or green): Ch 4, turn, skip next ch, dc in next ch, (ch 2, dc in next dc) rep once, ch 2, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch, ch 2, skip next ch, dc in next ch. 5 chain spaces.

Row 3 (brown or green): Ch 5, turn, (dc in next dc, ch 2) rep three times, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch. 5 chain spaces.

Row 4 (brown or green): Ch 4, turn, (dc in next dc, ch 2) rep twice, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch. 5 chain spaces.

Row 5 (brown or green): Ch 4, turn, skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, skip next ch-2 space, dc and ch, tc in next ch. 3 chain spaces.

Start working in the rounds:

Round 1 (brown or green): Ch 1, 5 sc in same space, 4 sc in next space, 3 sc in next space, 4 sc in next space, 5 sc in next space, 3 sc in next space, 5 sc in next space, 4 sc in next space, 3 sc in next space, 4 sc in next space, 5 sc in next space, 3 sc in next space, join with sl st to the 1st sc.

Round 2 (brown or green): Ch 1, sc in same sc, ch 1, * skip next sc, sc in next sc, ch 1 **, rep from * to ** to the end of the round, join with sl st to the first sc.

Round 3 (brown or green): Ch 1, sc in same sc, * ch 13, sl st in the 11th ch from the hook, ch 3, skip next sc, sc in next sc ** rep from * to ** to the end of the round, join with sl st to the first sc.

Round 4 (yellow): Connect yellow yarn to any ch-10 space, ch 3, 7 dc in same ch-10 space, ch 3, 8 dc in the same space, * 8 dc in next ch-10 space, ch 3, 8 dc in the same space **, rep from * to ** to the end of the round, join with sl st to top of ch 3.

JOINING:

How to join 4 sunflowers (watch this video tutorial – click here):

We are going to start:

  • from the right upper (green) sunflower to the upper left upper (brown) sunflower,
  • from the upper left upper (brown) sunflower to the lower left (green) sunflower,
  • from the lower left (green) sunflower to the lower right (brown) sunflower,
  • from the lower right (brown) sunflower to the right upper (green) sunflower.

With yellow yarn start crocheting a chain star which will join all 4 squares.

Ch 5, sl st in the first ch to form a circle,

ch 5, sc in any ch-3 space (petal) of the right upper (green) sunflower, ch 5, sc into the first ch-5 circle,

ch 10, sc through 2 petals – next upper petal of the right upper (green) sunflower and any petal of the upper left (brown) sunflower, ch 10, sc into the 1st ch 5 circle,

ch 5, sc in the next lower petal of the upper left (brown) sunflower, ch 5, sc into the first ch-5 circle,

ch 10, sc through 2 petals – next lower petal of the upper left (brown) sunflower and any petal of the lower left (green) sunflower, ch 10, sc into the first ch-5 circle,

ch 5, sc in the next lower petal of the lower left (green) sunflower, ch 5, sc into the first ch-5 circle,

ch 10, sc through 2 petals – next lower petal of the lower left (green) sunflower and any petal of the lower right (brown) sunflower, ch-10, sc into the first ch-5 circle,

ch 5, sc in the next upper petal of the lower right (brown) sunflower, ch 5, sc into the first ch-5 circle,

ch 10, sc through 2 petals – next upper petal of the lower right (brown) sunflower and next petal of the right upper (green) sunflower, ch 10, sc into the first ch-5 circle, cut the yarn.

Join 12 sunflowers in the circle.

SHOULDERS STRAPS:

Connect a brown sunflower to any green sunflower this way (yellow yarn):

Ch 5, sl st in the first ch to form a circle,

ch 5, sc in any ch-3 space (petal) of the shoulder strap sunflower (brown), ch 5, sc into the first ch-5 circle,

ch 5, sc through 2 petals – next lower petal of the brown sunflower and next petal of the green sunflower, ch 5, sc into the first ch-5 circle,

ch 5, sc in the next petal of the green sunflower, ch 5, sc into the first ch-5 circle, and cut the yarn.

“Fill the gaps” between sunflowers in the same way. Please see the scheme or watch a video tutorial

BORDER:

Connect the yarn to any petal and make a row of ch-5 spaces around the neckline, bottom, and armholes, after that, crochet 2 rounds of sc around the neckline.
