JOINING 1

HOW TO JOIN SQUARES IN THE CIRCLE

Start joining the squares while you are crocheting the 4th round:

connect the thread to any corner,

ch-3, 2 dc in the same space, ch-1, sc in any corner of the 1st (finished square), 3 dc in the same corner of the 2nd square,

sc in the 1st space between 2 corners of the 1st square, 3 dc in the 1st space between 2 corners of the 2nd square,

sc in the 2nd space between 2 corners of the 1st square, 3 dc in the 2nd space between 2 corners of the 2nd square,

sc in the 3rd space between 2 corners of the 1st square, 3 dc in the 2nd corner of the 2nd square,

sc in the 2nd corner of the 1st square, ch-1, 3 dc in the 2nd corner of the 2nd square, then finish the 4th round

connect 8 squares in the circle

the 8th square connect from 2 sides (repeat the previous steps)

THE SECOND ROUND OF THE SQUARES

FIRST SQUARE

start adding the 2nd row of the squares:

crochet 3 rows of the main pattern, connect the thread to any corner and finish one side of the square but make just 3 dc in the second corner,

then, ch-1, sc in the space between 2 squares, sc in next corner, 3 dc in the 2nd  corner of the 1st square of the 2nd row of squares, (how you see it easy to make but it sounds a bit complicated)

then repeat the previous steps of joining to the next corner,

when you reach the 2nd corner of the 1st square of the 2nd row of squares,

crochet 1st 3 dc in the corner, then sc in the 2nd corner of the square of the 1st row of squares, sc in the space between 2 squares, ch-1, 3 dc in the 2nd corner of the 1st square of the 2nd row of squares, then finish the 4th round

SECOND SQUARE

crochet 3 rows of the main pattern, connect the thread to any corner,

ch-3, 2 dc in the same space, sc in the space between 2 squares, sc in next ch-2 space, ch-1, finish the corner (3 dc in the same space),

then, repeat the previous steps of joining to the 2nd corner, 3 dc in next corner (the corner of this square), sc in next corner of the 1st-row square, sc in next corner of the 2nd-row square, ch-1, finish the corner (3 dc in the same ch-2 space )

then, repeat the previous steps of joining and finish the square.

I made 2 rows of squares to get a crop top but you can add as many rows as you need. Also, you can stop making squares and finish the top as I finished this top (with a straight neckline).

Now we need to crochet 3 irregular squares – 2 half squares and 1 3 sides square.

Half squares – crochet the 1st row of the pattern, then, make just three corners of the 2 row. 2 half squares are mirror reflections of each other, as you can see in the video.

The 3rd row of the 1st half square crochet this way:

connect the thread to the lower-left corner, ch-3, 2 dc in the same space, ch-2, 3 dc in the same space, 3 dc in next space between 2 corners, 3 dc in next ch-2 space, ch-2, 3 dc in the same space, 3 dc in next space between 2 corners, 3 dc in the last corner, cut the thread.

The middle square – crochet 2 rows of the main pattern.

The 3rd row of the middle square crochet this way:

connect the thread to any corner, ch-3, 2 dc in the same space, repeat the 3rd row of the pattern to the last corner, crochet 3 dc in the last corner, cut the thread

The 3rd row of the 2nd half square crochet this way:

connect the thread to the upper left corner, ch-3, 2 dc in the same space, 3 dc in next space between 2 corners, 3 dc in next ch-2 space, ch-2, 3 dc in the same space, 3 dc in next space between 2 corners, 3 dc in the last corner, ch-2, 3 dc in the same space,  cut the thread

JOINING 2

Start joining from the 1st half square from left to right. From the lower-left corner:

connect the thread to the lower-left corner, ch-3, 2 dc in the same space, sc in the space between two squares, sc in next corner, ch-1, 3 dc in the 1st corner of the half square,

rep previous steps of joining to the 2nd corner,

3 dc in the 2nd corner of the half square, sc in the 2nd corner of the lower square, sc in the space between 2 squares, ch-1, 3 dc in the 2nd corner of the half square,

3 dc in next 2 spaces, 1 dc in the last dc

Start joining the middle square. Place the square as you can see on the video. Yarn over. Insert the hook in the 1st dc of the middle square and finish the dc,

3 dc in the next space of the middle square, sc in the 1st space of the half square, continue to join the middle square to the half-square and to the lower square until you’ll finish the 3rd corner after that crochet 3 dc in next 2 spaces of the middle square and finish with dc in the last dc

The second half-square connect in the same way

SHOULDERS STRAPS

Make 3 rows of granny stitches across the middle square and 2 half squares of the back part of the top:

Row 1: join the thread, ch-3, 3 dc in each space to the end of the row, in the end of the row crochet a dc in the last st

Row 2: ch-3, turn, 2 dc in the 1st space, 3 dc in each space to the end of the row,

Row 3: ch-3, turn, 3 dc in each space to the end of the row, in the end of the row crochet a dc in the last st

Repeat Row 1-3 for the front part. Then:

Row 1: ch-3, dc in next 3 dc

Row 2: ch-3 turn, dc in next 3 dc

Repeat Row 2 5 times. Connect the strap to the opposite part of the top by sl st. The 2nd shoulder strap crochet in the same way.

Make a row of shell stitches around the bottom and armholes.

Round 1: connect the thread to any space, ch-1, sc in the same space, 5 dc in next space, * sc in next space, 5 dc in next space **, rep from * to ** to the end of the round, in the end of the round join with sl st to the 1st sc
