The easy instructions will show you how to crochet a granny square candy cardigan. Let’s get started!

MATERIALS:
Yarn: you can use any 8/8 cotton yarn, 100% cotton, 50 g (1.8 oz) / 75 m (82 yds) – around 600 grams
Lilac – DROPS Loves You 8 #05 – 380 gr (around 8 skeins)
Pink – DROPS Paris #33 – 78 gr (around 2 skeins)
Green – Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 #020 Petrol Green – 60 gr (a bit more than 1 skein)
Yellow – Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 #055 Sunny Yellow – 50 gr (1 skein)
Purple – DROPS Loves You 8 #31 – 80 gr (around 2 skeins)
Crochet Hook: 4 mm
Size: S, length – 52 cm / 20 1/2 in, width – 43 cm / 17 in, sleeves – 52 cm / 20 1/2 in, square – 10×10 cm / 4×4 in, you can easily adjust the pattern to any size, please read more about it below
Stitches Used: ch – chain, sl st – slip stitch, sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet, granny stitch – (3 dc in ch-1 space, ch-1)
PATTERN
SQUARE:
With yellow yarn ch-4, join with sl st to the 1st ch
Round 1 (yellow): ch-3 (count as the 1st dc), 11 dc into the circle, join with sl st to top of ch-3 (12 dc)
Round 2 (yellow): ch-3, dc in the same place, 2 dc in each dc to the end of the round, join with sl st to top of ch-3 (24 dc)
Round 3 (green): change the color of the yarn, connect the yarn to any dc, ch-2, dc2tog in the same place, ch-3, * skip next dc, dc3tog in next dc, ch-3 **, repeat from * to ** to the end of the round, join with sl st to the top of the 1st st (12 sts)
Round 4 (purple): change the color of the yarn, connect the yarn to any ch-3 space, ch-3, 2 dc in same space, ch-2, 3 dc in same space, ch-1, (3 dc in next ch-3 space, ch-1) rep once, * 3 dc in next ch-3 space, ch-2, 3 dc in same space, ch-1, (3 dc in next ch-3 space, ch-1) rep once **, rep from * to ** twice, join with sl st to top of ch-3
JOINING:
NOTE: you will need just one full square, after that you should join the squares while you are crocheting the last (4th) row. How to join granny squares you can find in this and this videos.
Round 4 (purple): change the color of the yarn, connect yarn to any ch-3 space, ch-3, 2 dc in same space, ch-1, sc in any corner (ch-2 space) of the finished square, 3 dc in the same space of the unfinished square,
(sc in next ch-1 space of the finished square, 3 dc in next ch-3 space of the unfinished square) rep once, sc in next ch-1 space of the finished square,
3 dc in next ch-3 space of the unfinished square, sc in the 2nd corner (ch-2 space) of the finished square, ch-1, 3 dc in the same ch-3 space of the unfinished square, finish the 4th round.
Join 8 (S size), 10 (M size), 12 (L size), 14 (XL-XXL sizes) squares in the same way
PINK PART
Start crocheting granny stitches across 8 (10,12,14) squares
Row 1: connect the pink yarn to the 1st corner (ch-2 space) of the 1st square, ch-4, * (3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch-1) rep twice, 3 dc in the space between 2 squares, ch-1 ** rep from * to ** to the end of the row, dc in the last corner (ch-2 space) of the last square
Row 2: ch-3, turn, 2 dc in the first ch space, * ch-1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space **, rep from * to ** to the end of the row
Row 3: ch-4, turn, * 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch-1**, rep from * to ** to the end of the row, dc in the last dc
Make 3 pink rows of granny stitches across the 2nd side (across 8 (10,12,14,) squares). Rep Rows 1-3
BOTTOM PART
Change the color of the yarn (lilac).
Row 1: connect the yarn to the 1st ch-1 space of the previous pink row, ch-3, 2 dc in the same space, * ch-1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space **, rep from * to ** to the end of the row
Row 2: ch-4, turn, * 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch-1**, rep from * to ** to the end of the row, dc in the last dc
Row 3: ch-3, turn, 2 dc in the first ch space, * ch-1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space **, rep from * to ** to the end of the row, cut the yarn
UPPER PART
Change the color of the yarn (lilac).
Row 1: connect the yarn to the 1st ch-1 space of the previous pink row, ch-3, 2 dc in the same space, * ch-1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space **, rep from * to ** to the end of the row
Row 2: ch-4, turn, * 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch-1**, rep from * to ** to the end of the row, dc in the last dc
Row 3: ch-3, turn, 2 dc in the first ch space, * ch-1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space **, rep from * to ** to the end of the row, cut the yarn
Rep Rows 2-3 until you reach 11 rows or as many as you need, it depends on the length you need
SHOULDERS STRAPS
FRONT
Fold the cardigan as you can see at the photo. Skip 3 chain spaces, 3 dc in the 4th chain space, work granny stitch in next 4 spaces. Crochet 13 rows of granny stitches (S size). 15 rows (M size), 17 rows (L size), 19 rows (XL-XXL sizes)
You get 5 granny stitches/13 (15,17,19) rows.
BACK
Skip 1 chain space (S size) from the front shoulder strap and crochet 5 granny stitches/13 rows. Skip 2 chain spaces (M size), skip 3 chain spaces (L size), skip 4 chain spaces (XL-XXL sizes)
Join 2 shoulders straps by sl sts through the back loops only
SLEEVES
Crochet 3 squares (S size) and join them together. 4 squares (M size), 5 squares (L size), 6 squares (XL-XXL sizes)
WRIST PART
Crochet 3 rows of granny stitches with pink yarn and 3 rows of granny stitches with lilac yarn
SHOULDER PART
Crochet 3 rows of granny stitches with pink yarn and 4 rows of granny stitches with lilac yarn. After that, start increasing the sleeve.
Increasing row: ch-3, turn, 2 dc in the 1st ch space, ch-1, 3 dc in the same space, work granny stitch in each ch-1 space to the end of the row, (3 dc, ch-1, 3 dc) in the last ch space
Crochet a row of granny stitches without increases. Next row – repeat a row with increases. You get 2 increases (S size). 3 increases (M size), 4 increases (L size), 5 increases (XL-XXL sizes). Then, crochet granny stitches rows without increases until you reach 25 lilac rows.
Join the sleeve to the shoulder part by sl sts after that make a sleeve seam.
NOTE: all seams are made from the wrong side
NECKLINE
Connect the yarn to the neckline and make 3 rows of granny stitches, after that crochet 4 rows of granny stitches without ch-1 space between them to decrease the width of the neckline.
FRONT PARTS
Crochet 3 rows of granny stitches across the left and the right parts.
With purple yarn make 2 rows of sc around the neckline, the front parts and the bottom. Crochet 2 rows of sc around wrists
